Police operatives and protesting members of the Shiite movement on Monday clashed on Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja. This occurred after the protesters stormed the Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution Abuja, in Abogo Largema a Central business district area in Abuja. Members of the Shiite movement are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and lamenting his continued detention.

5. PDP Blames Buhari Govt For Shiite, Police Clash In Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party has called for an urgent probe into the alleged clash between security operatives and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shiite. The party, in a statement, said an inquest into what caused the crisis should be carried out as soon as possible.

6. Falana Speaks On Police, Shiite Members Clash

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has condemned the attack on Shi’ite Muslims by security agencies on Monday in Abuja. Also, Falana called for the release of Shiite detainees in line with  the order of the Federal High Court if the government was “genuinely desirous” of stopping the protest.

Former Military Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida has revealed that Kudirat Abiola was still in contact with him even after the annulment of the June 12 1993 election. He said he deserved credit for conducting one of the freest elections in Nigeria’s history.

8. President Buhari Holds Talks With British PM

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held bilateral talks with the British Prime Minister Theresa May. The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, had the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Onyeama, and other government officials in attendance. At the end of the meeting, Buhari thanked May for Britain’s training of Nigerian Armed forces in fighting Boko Haram.

Senator Ademola Adeleke has declared his intention to contest for the September 22 governorship election in Osun state. The lawmaker representing Osun West Senatorial revealed this in a letter he addressed to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.
