[Sport News] Liverpool and Tottenham To Receive Payment From Manchester City Title Win

Liverpool and Tottenham will both profit from Manchester City’s Premier League title victory due to clauses inserted in the transfers of Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker.

Pep Guardiola’s side were confirmed as champions on Sunday after rivals Manchester United suffered a shock defeat to bottom-of-the-table West Brom at Old Trafford. The result left City 16 points clear of United with five games to play – and 15 points to play for – making it the joint earliest a team has ever won the Premier League.

However, their title win has not come cheap, with The Times reporting that three recent transfers included clauses should City win the league. Tottenham are, perhaps unsurprisingly, due the biggest windfall, with City’s title win triggering a £1.5 million payment inserted into the deal to sign Walker last summer.

Sterling also won his first Premier League title with City since leaving Liverpool three years ago, with the Reds due £1m under the terms of his move. Leroy Sane’s old club Schalke are also due to receive a payment, though it will only set City back around £432,000.

City’s title win will also see £10m of bonuses be split among the squad, with several senior stars – such as Kevin De Bruyne – pocketing an astonishing £500,000. Guardiola is also due a significant bonus for guiding the side to such a commanding title win, with the former Barcelona manager expected to extend his contract until 2020 at the end of the season.
