1. Nigeria’s Capital Spending In Excess Of N1.5trn – Adeosun

The Nigerian government will be closing the 2017 budget with a capital spending in excess of N1.5 trillion, minister of finance Kemi Adeosun said on Sunday. According to the minister, the figure is higher than what the government achieved in the 2016 budget. Revealing this in a series of tweets, Adeosun said the federal government was looking forward to the passage of the 2018 budget by National Assembly.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party is working towards convincing aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress to join its fold, as the 2019 elections draw closer. National Chairman of the party Prince Uche Secondus confirmed this on Sunday, saying the PDP would take every legitimate step to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari’s party next year.

3. Woman Who Allegedly Killed Nigerian Diplomat In Sudan Arrested


The Sudanese government has announced the arrest of a woman accused of killing an Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian embassy in Khartoum. The Consular officer, Habibu Almu, was found stabbed to death at his home in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Thursday. The Nigerian government condemned the assassination of its national immigration officer and said it would work with Sudan to arrest the culprit.

4. Malabu Oil: Trial Of Shell, Eni CEO To Begin Monday

The Royal Dutch Shell and Eni, along with a number of their senior executives, will on Monday face criminal charges in Milan, Italy, for alleged aggravated international corruption for their role in a $1.1bn deal for a Malabu Oil’s OPL 245.

Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has insisted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is committed to offering hope to the Nigerian people. He said this while fielding questions from journalists after the inauguration of President Maada Bio of Sierra Leone on Saturday. Some prominent Nigerians, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had condemned the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for, according to them failing to fulfill its promises.

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has said there was never a time he refused to honour the invitation of the Senate. Speaking on a local radio station in Kano on Saturday, Idris said he held the lawmakers in the Senate in high esteem. The IGP said the invitation of the Senate, according to the letter sent to him, was on Senator Dino Melaye’s case which is before a court and discussing such will amount to prejudice and contempt.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has written a petition to Diego García-Sayán, UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, requesting him to use his offices to prevail on the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to end persistent disobedience of court rulings.

9. Okorocha Blames APC NWC For Crisis In Imo

Governor of Imo Rochas Okorocha is confident those responsible for the violence during the APC ward congress in the state will be arrested. The governor, who insinuated that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party was working against the APC in the state, thanked the police for the arrests made so far.
