1. Fayose’s Pick, Olusola Emerges PDP Gov Flag Bearer In Ekiti

The preferred candidate of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship Primary in the state, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka has emerged winner. This means that Olusola will represent the party will represent the PDP at the July 14 governorship election in the state after emerging with the highest number of votes in the primary conducted on Tuesday in the state capital.

The Court of Appeal last Friday granted the request of the federal government to extradite the lawmaker to the United States of America (USA) to face trial in a drug related offence.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Friday May 11th, 2018 as the new date for Ekiti State governorship primaries. Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, spokesperson of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the primary will still be conducted by the Governor Tanko Al- Makura led Committee, the only exception being the substitution of secretary of the committee.

A combined ad hoc committee of the National Assembly has been inaugurated by Senate President Bukola Saraki to probe the invasion of the red chamber and snatching of the mace by suspected thugs. Members of the committee were drawn from the Senate and House of Representatives.

6. Senate Invites Service Chiefs Over Illegal Possession Of Firearms

Senate on Tuesday summoned the service chiefs over the illegal possession of firearms by non-authorised Nigerians. Those invited include all military heads; the Director General of the State Security Service; Lawan Daura; and the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali. Their invitation followed a motion raised by Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC, Kaduna North).

Senator Danjuma Tella La’ah (APC-Kaduna Central) has accused Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state of promoting hate speech. La’ah said: “El-Rufa’i is the devil Kaduna state ever had since the creation of the state. He never wanted to see peace achieved in the state. He created divide and rule policy, I don’t know what he want to achieve.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Festus Keyamo (SAN), and six others as board members of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). Senate President Bukola Saraki read the letter from President Buhari at the plenary on Tuesday in which he sought legislative approval for the appointments.

11. NYSC Raises Corps Members’ Allowance

Corps members’ transport and local allowances during orientation programmes will be increased, according to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). NYSC Director Press and Publications Adenike Adeyemi revealed this on Monday, adding that it was in line with the Federal Governments approved minimum wage for civil servants.

13. New Ebola Outbreak Kills 17 In DR Congo

Seventeen people in northwest Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have died from Ebola, the health ministry said on Tuesday, describing the fresh outbreak as a “public health emergency with international impact.” “Twenty-one cases of fever with haemorrhagic indications and 17 deaths” have been recorded in Equateur province, it said, citing a notification to the ministry as of May 3.
