1. Don’t Contest Against Me, Buhari Tells Youths

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the “Not Too Young To Run” movement to “postpone” its “campaigns” until after the 2019 elections. The 75-year-old Nigerian leader said this on Thursday in Abuja after signing the “Not Too Young To Run” bill at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

2. Nigerians React To Not-Too-Young-To-Run Act


Nigerians have hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the “Not Too Young To Run” bill, describing it as a major milestone in the country’s democracy. Buhari had on Thursday signed the bill which reduced the age required for contestants to political positions in the country.

3. US Commends Buhari For Signing Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill Into Law

Nigerian youths have been congratulated by the United States over the signing into law of the #NotTooYoungToRun bill by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday. The act reduces the age required for contestants to political positions in Nigeria. And the Embassy of the US in Nigeria said America supports a free, fair and inclusive political process in Nigeria.

4. JOHESU Finally Suspends Strike

The Joint Health Workers Union (JOHESU) on Thursday suspended its nationwide strike. The union has therefore directed all health workers to resume work on Monday, June 4, 2018.

5. You Can’t Stop Salaries Of JOHESU Members, NLC Tells Health Minister

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has no right to deny the Joint Health Sector Union members of their salaries, says President of Nigeria Labour Congress Ayuba Wabba. Adewole had earlier threatened not to pay the salaries of JOHESU members for the number of days they went on strike while some were not paid the April salary. And it was learned that some members of the union were short paid while some were not paid at all in April.

6. Nigerian Army Intercepts Truckload Of Ammunition In Ogun

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has intercepted three trucks loaded with more than 300,000 cartridges on the Igbogila-Ilara area of Ogun state, southwest Nigeria. This was revealed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division, Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh, at a news conference in Lagos.

7. Dino Melaye Demands Apology From Buhari 

Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West) on Thursday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to the National Assembly over uncomplimentary remarks credited to him (Buhari). Speaking during plenary, Melaye said it was uncomplimentary and derogatory to the reputation of the National Assembly and functions of the parliament particularly under a democratic dispensation.

8. United States Condemns El-Zakzaky Continued Detention

The United States has condemned the continued detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Shiekh Ibrahim El-zakzaky and the restriction of free movement and association of his followers. The US, in the International Religious Freedom Report for 2017 released on Wednesday by the Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, noted that there was no record that the Government or military authorities had demanded accountability from the soldiers implicated in the December 2015 clash between the Army and members of the group.

9. Reps Reject Use Of Electronic Voting

Lawmakers in Nigeria’s House of Representatives have rejected the use of electronic voting system in the 2019 general election. This followed the presentation of a bill seeking to amend the provisions of the Electoral Act. The Bill for an Act to Amend the Provisions of the Electoral Act, No. 6, 2010 to further improve the Electoral Process and for Related Matters has 41 clauses.

10. Five Nigerian Soldiers Killed In Boko Haram Ambush

Five soldiers died along the Pridang-Bita road in Borno after their vehicle stepped on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the Nigerian army said on Thursday. The incident happened when troops of 271 Task Force Battalion fought through an ambush staged by Boko Haram terrorists in Gwoza.

11. CBN Deputy Governor Adebayo Adelabu Bows Out

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the disengagement of the Deputy Governor in charge of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Adebayo Adelabu, with effect from July 15, 2018. CBN Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, saying that Buhari, in a letter dated May 24, 2018, wished Adelabu well in his future endeavours.

12. Musa Explains How England Friendly Will Help Eagles

Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa has said that Saturday’s friendly with the Three Lions of England will boost their confidence ahead of the 2018 World Cup. Nigeria, who were held to a 1-1 draw by DR. Congo on Monday, will play the Europeans at the Wembley Stadium before jetting out for their final camping in Austria. Speaking ahead of the clash, Musa said the England clash would be a big game.
