1. Boko Haram Leader’s Mum Vows To Talk Sense Into Him
Mother of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has not seen him for 15 years. Shekau’s mum, Falmatu, revealed this to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA). According to her, Shekau’s father, who died years ago, was a local Koranic school teacher. She told her interviewer that her son, Abubakar, became radicalised after he met the founder of the sect, the late Mohammed Yusuf.

The 2018 Fifa World Cup began with a bang as hosts Russia spanked Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening match at the magnificent Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Thursday. Stanislav Cherchesov’s team had not won in their past seven matches and had been heavily criticised even by the President of the nation, Vladimir Putin. They needed a perfect start. 3. Sultan Of Sokoto Declares Friday Eid-el-Fitr Day
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Thursday declared Friday June 15, 2018 as the day to mark the Eid-el-Fitr, and the end of the Ramadan fast. He made this known while announcing the sighting of the new moon of the month, Shawwa. The new moon, according to the Sultan, was sighted in parts of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Borno, Jigawa, Nassarawa, Plateau and Sokoto States among others.
4. Buhari Urges Nigerians To Stop Worshipping Thieves
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian Muslims to practise the virtues of Islam beyond the Ramadan season, as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr. Buhari, in his message to mark the end of the Ramadan fasting, congratulated Muslims on the completion of “this spiritually significant month of sacrifice.” He called on them to reflect on the importance of Ramadan by becoming good ambassadors of Islam at all times.
5. JMPP Vows To Fence Nigeria, Change Name To Pisonia And Currency Into Pison
Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP) on Thursday said if elected into power in 2019, it would construct perimeter fence around Nigeria and change the name of the country and the currency. Acting National Chairman of the Party, Dr Olusegun Ijagbemi, made this known at a news conference in Abuja. He said that the need to change the name of the country and its currency was divinely revealed to the leadership of the party, adding that the changes were important if Nigeria must make progress.
6. FG Putting Solar Power In All Markets – Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Federal Government is powering markets across Nigeria with alternative energy. According to him, this is being done to support small and medium enterprises. The vice president revealed this on Thursday during the South-South Innovation Hub Inauguration in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal says he is happy the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is investigating him over corruption allegations. Lawal was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari on 30 October, 2017, after he was found guilty for corruption by a presidential panel, led by vice-president Yemi Osinbajo. The EFCC is investigating Lawal for allegedly violating the law and due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

Five more suspects in connection with the Offa bank robbery have been nabbed by men of the Inspector General Of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT). It was gathered that the five suspects were arrested this week after the IRT operatives stormed the south west part in continuation with the investigations into the robbery.

Nigeria defender Leon Balogun is likely to miss the team’s opening 2018 World Cup tie with Croatia on Saturday due to injury. Concise News understands that Balogun did not train with his teammates in their last session on Thursday before they left for Kaliningrad, where they would play against Croatia. The centre-back, who recently signed for Premier League club Brighton, will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury as well as his availability for the game.
