1. Gov. Yari Resigns As Chief Security Officer Of Zamfara

Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara state says he has dropped his responsibility as Chief Security Officer of the state as he has no control over security machinery. Speaking to newsmen in Talata-Mafara on Friday, Yari said that his decision stemmed from seeming helplessness of the state government and the people over recurring killings in the state.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has felicitated with Muslims all over the world on the successful completion of Ramadan. Ogunwusi charged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of religious tolerance to enable them to coexist peacefully with the adherents of other religious faiths.

3. Buhari Says He Rejected Advice To Avoid Ramadan Fast


President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said he rejected advice given to him to refrain from participating in the just-concluded Ramadan fast. While the President was not specific as to who offered the advice, he, however, said having participated in the one-month exercise, he is now healthier to handle national issues.

The Presidency has restated that the executive bill on water resources before the National Assembly is not to take over the ownership and control of the resources from the states. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang said the purpose of the bill had been misinterpreted by Nigerians.

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has said he would put former Governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole in a monkey cage if he were President Muhammadu Buhari. Fani-Kayode was reacting to a statement by Oshiomhole that he would have arrested former President Olusegun Obasanjo if he were to be in Buhari’s position. Oshiomhole said this on Wednesday, urging Buhari to investigate and jail the former president should he be found to have dipped his hands into public treasury.

The lawyer representing Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has withdrawn his representation from all criminal charges against his client. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Olukoya Ogungbeje, said that his withdrawal is on personal reasons. Ogungbeje added that his life and that of the defence lawyers has repeatedly been threatened.

7. Fayose Says He Does Not Have Confidence In Nigeria Police

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has said he does not trust the Nigeria Police Force due to the rising crime rate in the country. Fayose also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure the country so as to end insecurity. He said this at an interactive conference convened by a Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural group Yoruba Ko’ya in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Former Governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole has said he is enjoying the backing of the presidency and leaders of the All Progressives Congress to become the party’s national chairman due to divine intervention. 9. Army On Standby For Rivers LG Polls

The Nigerian Army has said it would be on standby to curb any violence during Saturday’s council elections in Rivers State. This was revealed by the Spokesman of the Nigerian Army 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, on Friday. According to him, the soldiers would be deployed in strategic points, several kilometres away from polling centres.

Former governor of Ondo State Olusegun Mimiko has said he returned to the Labour Party (LP) out of the conviction to join forces with a political ideology relevant to the need of the present day Nigeria. He had on Wednesday resigned from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former governor stated that returning to the LP was borne out of “the need to catalyse a greater focus on the ideological content of the Nigerian political firmament.”
