Kylian Mbappé scored two superb goals and won a penalty as France defeated Argentina 4-3 in a thrilling World Cup second-round game on Saturday to reach the quarter-finals.

Mbappe, 19, became the first teenager to score twice in a World Cup match since Pele grabbed a brace for Brazil against Sweden in the 1958 tournament.

Antoine Griezmann fired the French in front from the penalty spot after Marcos Rojo ended a searing Mbappe run.

But Argentina bounced back before the break, thanks to Angel di Maria’s stunning long-range curler.

Gabriel Mercado later diverted a Messi shot past Hugo Lloris to give Jorge Sampaoli’s side the lead.

That goal sent thousands of Argentina supporters into raptures.

But France still had a lot to say. They responded courtesy of Benjamin Pavard’s stunning effort.
