1. INEC Declares APC’s Oyetola Has Winner Of Osun Governorship Election
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Osun State governorship election, Gboyega Oyetola, has been declared the winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, who declared Oyetola winner of the election after the collation of the results of the supplementary election in seven polling units, said he had met all conditions required to be returned as governor-elect for the state. Fuwape said Oyetola polled 255,505 votes to defeat Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had 255,023 votes.
2. Adeleke Rejects Osun Re-run Election Results
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 Osun state governorship election, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, has rejected the results of the rerun election even before the official announcement. The Senator announced the rejection of the poll results in a statement issued on his behalf by the spokesperson for the Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Olawale Rasheed. The PDP candidate vowed to seek legal redress, saying the exercise was brazenly rigged.
3. APC Disqualifies Buhari’s Minister From Guber Race Over NYSC Scandal
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified the Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu, from the Oyo state governorship race over his failure to partake in the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. Concise News recalls that Shittu failed to present himself for the scheme despite graduating from the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU) at age 25.
4. Presidency Meets Labour Leaders Over Strike
Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, met with labour leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to find a solution the ongoing strike by workers. Kyari said he summoned the meeting with a view to ascertaining what stalled the ongoing negotiation on minimum wage. However, while fielding questions from State House correspondents after the closed-door meeting, Kyari said the presidency wanted to know reasons for the industrial action.
5. Mama Taraba Screened Out Of APC Governorship Race
The immediate past Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, has been screened out of the race for the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State. Concise recalls that Alhassan, who is fondly called ‘Mama Taraba’, resigned her ministerial position in July to pursue her governorship, having come within whiskers of winning the election in 2015 only to see the position go to Darius Ishaku of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, confirmed Alhassan’s disqualification on Thursday night.
6. Full List Of APC’s Screened Governorship Aspirants Across Nigeria
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, has released the full list of candidates screened for governorship elections across Nigeria next year. While many of the aspirants were cleared, some like communications minister Adebayo Shittu, and immediate past minister of women affairs, Aisha Al-hassan, were disqualified as earlier reported by Concise News.
7. ASUU Threatens Strike Over 2017 Agreement
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the federal government fails to implement the 2017 agreement. Prof. Lawan Abubakar, the Bauchi Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, at a news conference on Thursday in Jos, expressed surprise that the federal government has yet to implement the various agreements aimed at revitalising public universities, as agreed in 2017.

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, has rescheduled the governorship primary to September 30, 2018. This was announced in a statement signed by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The APC Spokesman said the dates for subsequent elections remain unchanged.

The Federal Government has declared Monday, October 1 as public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 58th Independence Anniversary. Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen.
