1. Presidency Receives 2018 Budget From National Assembly
The Presidency on Friday stated that it has received the 2018 Appropriation Bill from the National Assembly. The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, had on Thursday said the National Assembly would transmit the 2018 Appropriation Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, confirmed the development to State House Correspondents.
2. Amnesty Int’l Insists Rape Report Of Boko Haram Victims Genuine
Amnesty International has insisted that its report of how security forces rape and starve Boko Haram victims is genuine. The organisation’s Country Director, Osai Ojigho, said the report was an account of eyewitness. Amnesty had alleged that troops of the Nigerian Army killed many who refused to be moved from territories rescued from the insurgents.
3. FG Declares Tuesday, May 29, Public Holiday
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, May 29, as public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day in Nigeria. The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Dr M. Umar.

The Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state says it is considering defecting to another political party. Prominent among the group are Senator Shehu Seni, Isah Ashiri, former APC governorship aspirant Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, among others. The group in a statement in Kaduna on Friday said it has concluded a review of the state of the party and governance issues in the state and the nation and was considering leaving the party they worked hard to put in place.

A member of the Assembly reportedly made away with the mace aided by another lawmaker. After the lawmaker exited the chamber with it, his accomplice held the door close to enable him to get away.

A two-time governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He announced his decision through a letter dated Thursday May 24, addressed to the chairman of the party in the state. He said the decision was not an easy one for him, but he said that the crisis rocking the party in the state had proved intractable ahead of another general elections.
9. Harvey Weinstein Charged With Rape
Former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been charged in New York with rape and several counts of sexual abuse stemming from two separate accusers. Weinstein turned himself in to police in the city earlier in the day. Dozens of women have made allegations against the 66 year old, including rape and sexual assault, and giving rise to the #MeToo movement.
