1. 22,000 Plateau Residents Homeless After Herdsmen Attack – Red Cross

More than 22,000 people have been displaced in Plateau state, north-central Nigeria, by the violence and killings in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South areas of the state, says Red Cross. According to the organisation’s International Committee, the Plateau internally displaced persons were in need of relief materials. It said the displaced persons needed food, shelter and clothing, which the body was working with the Nigerian Red Cross Society to provide.

2. CAN Reports Buhari Govt To US, UN Over Herdsmen Killings

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Samson Ayokunle says the body has reported the Nigerian government to the US and UN over the incessant killings  by suspected herdsmen in Nigeria. Ayokunle believes that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has not been responsible enough in its handling of the herders-farmers clashes. The cleric, during a media briefing in Ilorin, Kwara state on Tuesday, said it was necessary for the President to reshuffle the security system in Nigeria, to effectively tackle this security challenge.

3. Plateau Killings: Why Suspects Must Be Tried In Jos – Gowon


Former Nigerian leader Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.) has said suspects arrested for the killing of more than 200 people in Plateau state should be prosecuted in the state. He said they should be tried in Jos, the Plateau state capital, because the crime was committed in the state. Gowon, who was Nigeria’s Head of State from 1966 to 1975, said this in the wake of reports that the military suggested Abuja as where the suspects should be prosecuted.

4. Buhari Reveals Why Politicians Are Blackmailing Him

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday reiterated that politicians are blackmailing him with the incessant killings and clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria. The President said this in Ekiti state, during a mega rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kayode Fayemi ahead of July 14 governorship election in the southwest state.

5. PDP Reacts To Ngige’s Campaign For Fayose In Ekiti

The Peoples Democratic Party has said President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the country and urged him to learn the art of governance. This was in reaction to an apparent gaffe by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, calling on people of Ekiti State to vote Governor of the State, Ayodele Fayose, in Saturday’s governorship poll. Ngige said this on Tuesday at the grand finale of All Progressives Congress governorship rally in Ado-Ekiti.

6. FG To Close Third Mainland Bridge For Repairs

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Adedamola Kuti, said on Tuesday that consultations had begun for the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for repairs. Kuti told reporters that the ministry of works was going to hold a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday to discuss how to manage traffic during the repairs. He, however, did not specify the exact date the bridge would be closed to traffic or how long the repairs would last.

7. Again, FAAC Meeting Ends In Deadlock

The June 2018 meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee suffered a setback on Tuesday as it was inconclusive and hence moved to Thursday. It was gathered that the meeting lasted for over an hour before it ended in a deadlock. Members of the Committee could not reach an agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the amount to be shared for June. Concise News understands that the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) Ahmed Idris was the first to walk out of the meeting.

8. Police Arrest Pastor For Prophecy Against Imo Gov. Okorocha

Police operatives in Imo state have arrested an Owerri-based pastor Chukwuma Okezuo for allegedly giving prophecies against the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha. The pastor in the Assemblies of God Church is understood to have made the alleged prophesies during a church service. Okezuo was alleged to have said in his prophecy that Okorocha was recruiting young boys in the state with the sole aim of kidnapping children between zero and 10 years for ritual purposes.

9. Solid France Edge Belgium To Reach World Cup Final

Samuel Umtiti’s 51st minute header against Belgium was enough to take France to the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The European giants locked horns at the semi-final of the competition on Tuesday and after a goalless first half, Umtiti rose higher and faster ahead of Marouane Fellaini to head home the lone goal of the clash. France, winners of the 1998 edition on home soil, will now wait for the other game between England and Croatia to know their foes in the final.

10. Ronaldo Joins Juventus

Real Madrid forward and current world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo is set to join Juventus, the Spanish club have confirmed. It is understood a deal worth £105m has been reached between the two clubs that will see the 33-year-old Portuguese end a 10-year stay at the Bernabeu. Ronaldo won four Champions Leagues at Real but had a turbulent relationship with president Florentino Perez.
