The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has come out of hiding, nine months after the military invasion of his community in Abia State, southeast Nigeria. Uche Mefor, the Deputy leader of the separatist group, made the announcement in a post on Facebook on Friday afternoon. According to Mefor’s post, the IPOB leader, who went into hiding after the Nigerian military clashed with members of his group last year, was spotted praying in Jerusalem, Israel.

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, INEC, says it will not extend the deadline for submission of list of candidates by political parties for the 2019 general election. “The Commission is following its timetable and schedule of activities for 2019 general elections. No extension of deadline for submission,” media aide to the commission’s boss Rotimi Oyekanmi said on Friday.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says some unknown persons in the party are trying to submit illegal names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 general election. Spokesman for the party Kola Ologbondiyan said the PDP was aware of moves to submit unauthorised names from illegal primaries conducted, especially in Ogun state.

8. 55 Killed In Fresh Kaduna Crisis

Fifty-five people were killed during communal crisis at Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru area of Kaduna state, in Nigeria’s northwest region, police in the state said on Friday. Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdur-Rahman, said that the Police had arrested 22 suspects in connection with the mayhem. Abdul-Rahaman said mobile and conventional policemen, as well as a team of the state joint security operatives, Operation Yaki, dispatched to the town had restored normalcy in the area.

9. Saudi Confirms Khashoggi’s Death, Dismisses Top Official

Saudi Arabia has announced the dismissal of a high-ranking intelligence officer as it confirmed that journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in its Consulate in Turkey. “Ahmad al-Assiri, vice president of general intelligence has been sacked from his position,” state media reported, citing a royal decree.
