1. Saraki Attempting To Obstruct Justice, Say Police

Senate President Bukola Saraki’s allegation of plot by the police boss, Ibrahim Idris, to implicate him and the Governor of Kwara is an attempt to obstruct justice, police have said. Saraki said he was reliably informed by his state governor, Ahmed Abdulfatah, that the IGP had ordered for the immediate transfer of criminal suspects to Abuja with alleged motive to implicate him and the state government. But the force said Saraki’s allegation was aimed at diverting attention from the police investigation into a murder case.

2. Osinbajo Vows To Quit Instead Of Compromising Faith

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said he would instead leave his seat than compromise his faith as a Christian. Osinbajo noted this on Tuesday while responding to posers raised by some Christian leaders at the stakeholders’ meeting held at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House, Makurdi.

3. Buhari Hits Fayose, Says APC Must Restore Ekiti Values


President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday called on the South West caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to carry out every legitimate step to win back Ekiti state. He gave the charge during a dinner meeting with the party’s leadership in the southwest at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Among those at the dinner were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, National Leader of the party Bola Tinubu and National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

4. At Last, Senate Passes 2018 Budget

The Senate has passed the 2018 Appropriation Bill after the consideration and adoption of the report by the joint National Assembly Committee on Appropriations. The report which was considered and adopted by the lawmakers on Wednesday was presented to the Senate on Tuesday. The same version of the report was presented in the Senate and House of Representatives.

5. Germany To Repatriate 30,000 Nigerians

Hirty thousand illegal Nigerian migrants in Germany will be repatriated to the country, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama. Onyema said this on Wednesday when he received the Security Adviser to the President of Germany Jan Hecker, and his team in Abuja. According to the minister, the new proposal is predicated on perceived failure and slow pace of the current system of repatriation.

6. Again, Court Grants Dasuki Bail After Re-arraignment

A Federal High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) during his re-arraignment on allegation of $2.1bn arms fund diversion. The former security chief was docked on 32-count amended charges along with Aminu Baba Kusa, Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital. The four defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the 32-count charge.

7. Police To Arrest Doctors Who Reject Gunshot Victims

Hospitals and doctors should henceforth stop rejecting gunshot victims, as such act constitutes a flagrant violation of an existing law, police in Lagos have said. The Lagos Command of the Nigerian police was reacting to reports that a hospital refused to treat a victim who was shot and wounded by armed robbers. Police say doctors who do so are criminally liable on account of the provision of the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims Of Gunshot Act, 2017.

8. Muslims To Begin Ramadan Fast Thursday

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has declared Thursday as the first day of the Ramadan fasting in Nigeria. The religious leader also announced the citing of the new crescent in Sokoto on Wednesday in a broadcast.

9. Ekiti Assembly Rejects Fayemi’s ‘Arrogant’ Apology

Lawmakers in Ekiti state have dismissed the apology tendered by former Governor of the state Kayode Fayemi. Fayemi, who is Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel, had apologised to Ekiti people shortly after emerging as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 14 governorship election. But Leader of the House, Akinyele Olatunji, said the minister’s apology came too late, urging people of the state to ignore him, as he believes Fayemi apologised in order to get votes.

10. Atletico Beat Marseille To Europa League Crown

Antoine Griezmann scored twice as Atletico Madrid won the Europa League trophy for the third time in nine years with a 3-0 win over Marseille.
