1. Southern, M’Belt Leaders Want INEC Chairman Removed

Leaders from the Southern and North Central Nigeria have demanded the removal of the chairman of the Independent National electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu. Speaking under the aegis of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, the leaders expressed fear that the commission may not deliver free and fair elections in 2019. The Forum made this position known at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday.

President Muhammadu Buhari is being criticised by some Nigerian elite because of his impressive performance in office, says the president’s media aide Garba Shehu. Shehu said this in an opinion titled “June 12 tsunami and the ones who won’t forgive Buhari” made available to newsmen in Abuja. Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders have kidnapped a Methodist Presbyter in Osun State Very Rev Kayode Akande and two other church leaders. The incident occurred on Sunday evening along the Iwo-Osogbo Road. It was gathered that Akande was taken away by the suspected herdsmen around 7pm.

6. N-Power Speaks On Absorbing Beneficiaries Into Civil Service

The Federal Government’s social empowerment scheme N-Power has said there are no plans to absorb its 2016 beneficiaries into the civil service. This was revealed by the scheme on its Twitter handle where it called on the beneficiaries to disregard any news to the contrary. The tweet noted that the Federal Government never ordered for the absorption of the beneficiaries.

United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday arrived in Singapore for their historic summit. Reports say Trump flew in aboard Air Force One, a few hours after Kim arrived with his team. It was gathered that the two leaders are staying in separate hotels, not far from each other.

Legal icon Femi Falana has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo could be arrested if there are legal grounds to do so. Obasanjo had alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was planning to arrest and disgrace him. However, speaking on Sunday on Channels TV, Falana said that Buhari could arrest Obasanjo if he was found wanting with regard to financial matters.

Nigeria on Sunday lost one of its musical legends Ras Kimono after a brief illness in the commercial nerve centre of Lagos. The singer was rushed to a hospital in Ikoyi after he slumped on Saturday and passed away on Sunday, a family statement said. Factional Chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) Tony Okoroji also confirmed his death.
