1. Police Arrest Alleged Masterminder Of Ekiti APC Rally Shooting

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested the politician who brought the policeman that fired the shot at a rally organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday. In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the police command noted that the policeman accidentally shot Opeyemi Bamidele and five others at the rally.

2. APC National Convention Committee Scribe Resigns

The Secretary of the National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ben Uwajumogu, has resigned his appointment. He tendered his resignation letter to the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee on Friday night. Uwajumogu addressing reporters later in Abuja on Saturday, said that he resigned to attend to personal family matters.

3. APC Appoints Ndoma-Egba As Convention Scribe After Uwajumogu Resigned

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba as the new Secretary for its National Convention Planning Committee. This followed the resignation of Senator Ben Uwajumogu earlier on Saturday. Uwajumogu commenting on his resignation earlier said the new date of June 23 for the convention has come in conflict with his plans to attend the graduation ceremony of his two children who are in schools in England.

4. Ekiti Police Command Says Policeman On Illegal Duty At APC Rally

The Ekiti Police Command has said that the policeman who was involved in the shooting of a former House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, and one other person at the Ekiti APC secretariat on Friday was in the state on “illegal duty.” The policeman was reportedly deployed for bank guard duties in Ikeja, Lagos state, but he made his way to Ekiti state, the Command said. In its situation report released on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Chukwuemeka, the Command said that findings revealed that what happened was a case of accidental discharge on the part of the mobile police officer.

5. APC Demands Probe Of Ekiti Shooting As Fayose Denies Involvement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state has called for an investigation into the shooting that occurred during a rally at its secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Friday. The APC Chairman in the state, Jide Awe, however, insisted that there was more to the shooting rather than the opinion of accidental discharge held in some quarters. Awe challenged the police to unravel the circumstances around the alarming development and investigate the alleged possible involvement of the state government.

6. PDP Sets Up Campaign Council For Ekiti Gubernatorial Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a campaign council for the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti state. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, revealed this in a statement on Saturday. According to him, the PDP National Working Committee approved the composition of the council to ensure the party’s victory in the July 14 poll in the state. He added that the party would inaugurate members of the council on Monday next week at its National Secretariat in Abuja.

7. Akeredolu Denies Involvement In Ekiti APC Rally Shooting

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has denied the allegation of being behind the shooting which occurred during Friday’s rally for the Ekiti All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi. This is contained in a statement issued in Akure on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Segun Ajiboye. The statement said the attention of the governor was drawn to a “ malicious’’ report by the campaign organisation of the governorship candidate of the PDP in Ekiti which alleged that Akeredolu was behind the shooting.

8. PDP Candidate Ogundoyin Wins Oyo Bye-election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the by-election held on Saturday to fill the vacant seat of Ibarapa East constituency in Oyo state House of Assembly. The State Independent National Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) annouced that the PDP candidate, Adebo Ogundoyin won the election, defeating the younger brother of the former speaker, Olukunle Adeyemo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Adepoju Ademola of the Accord Party.

9. Gov Wike’s Ally Manneh Defects To APC In Rivers

The lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency I at the Rivers State House Assembly, Martins Mannah (PDP), has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mannah was a strong ally of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers during the 2015 elections. On Saturday while defecting with about 3000 of his supporters, he lamented that in three years of his representation of his people, the state government did not approved any project for his constituency.

10. England Punish Lacklustre Eagles In 2-1 Win

England-based Alex Iwobi scored a brilliant goal but it was not enough to prevent Nigeria from losing 2-1 to England in a friendly played on Saturday at the Wembley Stadium. It was a game of two halves, with England dominating the first and Nigeria making the English struggle in the second. Chelsea defender Gary Cahill headed Gareth Southgate’s men in front in the 7th minute, before Tottenham’s prolific striker Harry Kane made it 2-0 in the 39th minute.
