[News] Police Make Senator Dino Melaye Laugh In Swahili

The senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has accused the police of plotting to keep top members of the opposition PDP away from resumption.

Federal lawmakers are scheduled to resume on 9 October after more than two months on vacation.

And Melaye was reacting to a police invitation that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and himself should report to the force headquarters for questioning over a protest involving the leadership of the party in Abuja on Friday.

Leaders of the party protested at the headquarters of INEC over the Osun governorship election outcome.

The electoral umpire declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola, the winner of the September 22 poll after two ballots.

Oyetola edged the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, after the collation of the results of the supplementary election in seven polling units.

The PDP candidate was leading by a margin of 325 votes, but INEC declared the exercise inconclusive, saying the requirements for a winner to be declared were not met.

But the party accused the ruling APC of partnering INEC to rig the re-run election.

And as a way of making known their dissatisfaction with the election, the PDP leadership staged the protest, which the police said was violent and as such invited those they said were caught on camera fomenting violence.

But Melaye believes that the police have an ulterior motive for inviting the three of them.

”Police invitation of three of us, another wicked strategy to keep us away from resumption in NASS on the 9th to attempt the agenda of leadership change. I laugh in Swahili. All die na die,” he wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning.

During the period of their vacation, the Senate President, Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, decamped from the ruling APC to the PDP.

And it is being speculated that lawmakers in the ruling party are gearing up to impeach the two principal officers.
