1. Southern, M’Belt Leaders Meet Over Killings, Insist On Restructuring

Leaders of South and Middle Belt Forum (LSMBF) has called for national emergency over the increasing security challenge in Nigeria. The group, comprising elder statesmen and leaders from the Southwest, South-south and Middle Belt areas of the country, identified “systemic dysfunction” as cause of Nigeria’s problem. Leaders of the forum met with Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday and called for a restructured Nigeria where there is a devolution of power.

2. President Buhari Returns To Nigeria After Trump Meeting


President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Nigeria after an official visit to the United States, where he met with President Donald Trump on Monday. The president touched down at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja, on Thursday evening.

3. FG Backing Killer Herdsmen, PFN Alleges

The Federal Government is tacitly backing killer herdsmen in Nigeria by its inability to tackle them, says the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in South-South. Vice President (South-South) of the PFN Bishop Simeon Okah made the allegation during a press conference in Delta state recently. According to him, “The federal government, from the least to the top, knows where the forces killing these people come from and if their hands are not in it, they should stop it.

4. Melaye’s Arraignment Humiliating, Unacceptable – Falana

Senior Nigeria lawyer Femi Falana has condemned the arraignment of Senator Dino Melaye on a stretcher by the police, saying it was a violation of the lawmaker’s fundamental human rights. The senator representing Kogi West was arraigned on Thursday before a Lokoja Chief Magistrate Court over allegation he supplied arms to some murder suspects in the state.

5. Ensure Dino Melaye Is Safe, Dogara Orders Police

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has urged the Nigerian Police to prioritize the health of Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West) before prosecution. He made the call at plenary on Thursday after Hon. Sunday Karimi (Kogi-PDP) drew the attention of the House to Melaye’s plight. Melaye is currently facing a seven-count charge of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms in Kogi State.

6. Gowon Advises Against Impeaching Buhari

Former head of state General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) ‎on Thursday warned against impeaching President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it would not be in Nigeria’s interest. Addressing Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly in Abuja, Gowon said it would be too early for presidents to be impeached in Nigeria. Gowon spoke in the wake of Senate’s consideration of an impeachment motion against President Buhari over the purchase of $496 million Tucano aircraft from the United States, without legislative approval.

7. Arewa Youths To Conduct Mock Election For Buhari, Atiku, Others

The Arewa Consultative Youths Movement (ACYM) is set to conduct a mock election for top presidential aspirants from the north. According to the group, this would help to test the popularity of the candidates ahead of the 2019 general election. It said the aspirants to be scrutinised included President Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state and Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state, among others.

Iconic Nigerian singer 2Baba, also known as 2Face, has urged youths in Nigeria to register for their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of 2019 general election. The artiste, an ambassador of the Independent National Electoral Commission, called on youths to actively get involved in constructive political discussions.

9. Wenger To Sign Off Trophyless

Atletico Madrid have ended Arsenal’s last hope of returning to Champions League football after they edged the Gunners 2-1 over two legs in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The result also means departing manager Arsene Wenger will not get a glorious farewell.  The Frenchman, who will leave the Gunners at the end of the season after 22 years in charge, has never won a European trophy with the club.
